IGNOU Bachelor of Arts (BA) – Online Admission
About BA Programme : BA stands for Bachelor of Arts. It comes under School of Social Sciences (SOSS), IGNOU. It is a 3 Year Degree Programme. A learner has to earn 96 credits in minimum three years with 32 credits per year. This discipline comes under the category of Bachelor Degre Programmes (BDP). This discipline is offered in both medium i.e English and Hindi.
The distance university offers admission to its Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme in both admission cycle i.e January and July. Students can apply for admission for this course via both mode i.e Online Mode only. Students can fill admission form online, enclosed documents and fees can be submitted via netbanking / credit card / debit card etc. The university provides Student Handbook & Prospectus 2020-21 for BA (Bachelor of Arts) in both English and Hindi medium. By reading prospectus, students can easily know about eligibility criteria, medium, fee structure, duration, age limit, programme coordinator etc. The soft copy of ba prospectus can be easily downloaded by visiting university web portal while students can also get the hard copy by paying Rs 200/- in cash at the nearest IGNOU Regional Centre.
This discipline, like other Bachelor’s Degree Programmes can be completed in minimum(3 years) and maximum(6 Years). All learners need to complete 96 credits in order to qualify for the BA degree. Below are important features of BA (Bachelor of Arts) programme :

- Eligibility Criteria : All applicants who wants to take admission in BA course, must have 10+2 or its equivalent or BPP from IGNOU
- Duration : Minimum : 3 Years, Maximum : 6 Years. If not completed on time, students needs to take re-admission and re-submit fees again.
- Age Bar : No minimum and maximum age bar
- Fee Structure : For full programme, the fees is Rs 6,000/- which has to be paid year wise @Rs 2,000/ per year. Be remember that fees structure vary from year to year. So, we asked you to contact Study Centre/Regional Centre.

IGNOU BA Courses & Syllabus : The total credits is 96 which needed to obtain the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in minimum three years with 32 credits per year. For earning 96 credits, a student has to opt for courses from three categories. 1) Foundation Course (2) Elective Courses and (3) Application-Oriented Courses as given here under :
1) Foundation Courses (24 Credits)
2) Elective Courses (56 Credits or 64 Credits)
3) Application Oriented Courses (16 or 8 Credits)
In addition to these courses, all BDP students have to study an awareness course on environment entitled -‘An Introduction to the Environment’ (NEV1).
How to Choose Courses for Bachelor of Arts (B.A) : In the first year of study, you should take 16 credits in Foundation Courses (BSHF101, BEGF101 or FHD2 and FEG2 or any one of MILs), and the remaining 16 credits in Elective Courses. In the second year you should take the remaining 8 credits of Foundation Course (FST1) and Elective Courses. In the 3rd year, you should take 16 or 24 credits in Elective courses and 16 or 8 credits in Application-Oriented Courses. There are two ways in which students can pursue the Ignou BA programme. First one is BA (Major) and second one is BA(General).
1) BA (Major) : If learners want to study one particular discipline in depth to obtain B.A. Major or you want to pursue the same discipline for your postgraduate studies, you can select courses worth 48 credits from that discipline except for Mathematics. In B.A., the option is available in English, Hindi, Urdu, Economics, History, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy and Mathematics.
2) B.A. (General) : If you do not intend to specialize in one discipline you can choose courses from various disciplines. Here you will have to be careful. If you choose from many disciplines you might end up doing one course from each discipline which might not give you enough knowledge in any of the disciplines.
